How To: Preparing for the V1.0 Launch

by | Feb 11, 2022 | Instructional | 1 comment

Our new 1.0 version of Flote… more stable, more secure and more scalable… is coming up soon. Here is all the information you need to be ready for the migration.

The site will be down from Tuesday evening to Thursday evening while we make the switch and complete our data migration. You should expect this downtime and make plans accordingly.

Once the new site is in place, existing users will need to create a new password using the “Recover Password” feature the first time you log in. We have changed the entire login security process and you will have to create a new password for yourself using this process in order to login again.

Your account data, posts, images and videos will all be preserved in the migration. Your DMs, however, will not be. This is because they are decrypted with your password and our new security setup will not be carrying old passwords forward to the new system.

When you first log in to the new system, you’ll be asked to create a new password. This process will be simple as we’re not collecting any information about you beyond your email address and username. But it will mean that your previous DMs will no longer be visible. You will absolutely want to copy out any important information in your direct messages from the current system before we make the transition.

Our new system will feature an entirely new wallet so you’ll need to take control of your existing bitcoin address in order to access your funds. The process for getting your private keys is described here: Preparing Your Flote Wallet for V1.0. NOTE: This process is independent from the V1.0 changeover. There is no time pressure to complete this process.

Because our Android apps (regardless of how you installed them) depend on the web site to function, once the site is changed over, those installed apps will no longer work. Shortly after the release we’ll be launching a Progressive Web Application (PWA) version of Flote that can be installed like an app on your mobile device. This is an exciting new development that we’ll talk about more in the near future.

We understand that this migration process may be confusing at first but we intend to make it as simple and straightforward as possible for you. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we make this vital jump from our prototype beta software to our production release!
